Mens and Alumni
Mens club = Sante Fe 10's College Div. Champions 10/9/07 |
First off the Mens club is heading to their second playoff match against the South Eastern Colorado 1 seat this coming weekend. So far the Mens club has beaten NMTech to move up in the playoff matches. If we are to win this next match, there will be one more playoff against the North Eastern Colorado 2 seat. That will determine who will have 1 of the 4 seats in Westerns this coming Spring 08.
Now the Alumni weekend is about to come! We would like everyone who is planning to attend to fill out the form located on the Alumni Page here. There is a schedule of what will happen and is subject to change. Please join us the weekend of October 27th for some great rugby action.
On another note, the Mens club won the college division at the Sante Fe 10s tournament this September. We played first against UNM B and won. Then played against NMTech and lost 12 to 19. One more match followed against the Dragons which became a successful victory. This put NMSU in the championships against NMTech. NMSU won 14 to 19. All Tourney awards were given to Jeremey who played Full Back and took vacation time off from the Navy to play with us and Brian Dutill who played at Fly Half.

7's in the Sand
The Chiles head to Huntington, CA 6/30/07 |
June 23rd marks the day of 7's in the Sand at Huntington Beach California. This year we had several players from the Chiles attend the tournament. Tim Worley (Coach), Gabriel Ramirez, Luke Clemens, Ryan Blackman, and Brian Dutill from the Chiles attended. I know what you are thinking and yes we had to fill the rest of the team with some players. Riverside Rugby helped us out and joined our team. The 'Desert Rats' played 3 test matches.
Starting off well by scoring 4 tries in the first half of the first game, 1 by Luke Clemens, 1 by Brian Dutill and 2 from Riverside. The second half, Malibu exploited us with deep and high kicking to set the loss of 20 to 25 Malibu. The second game proved better as the team generated a better strategy to use. The team finished 15 to 0 Desert Rats with tries by Luke Clemens and Brian Dutill and another from Riverside. Coming into the last game, the Desert Rats needed another win to enter the Semi-Finals. The last match was work for the team. Entering the 2nd half 10 to nil, Brian Dutill puts up 5 points to close the gap. Coming to the end, the Desert Rats lose 5 to 15 making the total tournament a 1-2 record for the team.
The Chiles would like to thank Riverside for adding support to the team for the tournament. Having coach Worley was a huge success as he helped keep players refreshed and well strategized. Oh and also Luke Clemens, of course, is the fast man on the beach...who would have guessed.
